Academics
Strong Foundation
Tommy brings the same dedication to his academics that he shows on the field. He consistently applies focus, discipline, and strong study habits to excel in his coursework, proving he values education as much as athletic performance.

What sets North Broward apart is the combination of scale and substance. With over 1,700 students and a sprawling 80-acre campus, it offers the resources of a small college: a Juilliard-affiliated fine arts program, a direct partnership with MIT for STEM curriculum and competitions, 28 AP courses, a full International Baccalaureate Diploma option, and one of the strongest robotics and debate programs in the region. Yet it somehow maintains an 11:1 student-teacher ratio and a deeply personalized feel that families rave about.
College outcomes are exceptional: roughly 30% of graduates matriculate to Top-50 U.S. universities, with regular placements at Ivy League schools, Stanford, Duke, Vanderbilt, Michigan, and the full Florida flagship trio (UF, FSU, Miami). The counseling department is legendary students speak of college advisors who know every file inside-out and genuinely move mountains for their kids.
Athletically, North Broward competes at the highest levels of Florida independent ball (FHSAA 3A-4A equivalent), regularly sending athletes to Power 5 programs in football, basketball, soccer, swimming, and baseball. The fine arts and leadership academies are equally accomplished, producing working actors, Broadway performers, and national-level musicians.
The boarding program home to students from more than 30 countries is routinely ranked among America’s top 20 boarding experiences for academic rigor and residential life. On-campus dorms are modern, the food is legitimately good (a rarity), and the weekend activity calendar rivals many small colleges.
North Broward Prep delivers an unapologetically ambitious, world-class education as it sits amongst the list of the most desired college prep options in the nation.
Rettas is a member of the Student Athlete Scholars organization.
Spanish River: The Academic Foundation Behind the Athlete
Competing at a high level in athletics requires more than physical talent it demands discipline, focus, and a commitment to excellence in every arena. Those same values are reflected in the academic environment that has shapes Tommy’s development as both an athlete and a student at Spanish River Community High School in Boca Raton, Florida.
Spanish River is not just a school it is one of the most academically distinguished public high schools in the State of Florida. Ranked in the top 20% of all Florida high schools in both math and reading proficiency and holding one of the highest GreatSchools ratings in the state, Spanish River consistently outperforms district and state averages across every academic benchmark. In the 2024-2025 school year, the school posted an 81% proficiency rate in 10th grade English Language Arts compared to 59% for the Palm Beach County district and 58% statewide.
The school's academic rigor is built on a foundation of Advanced Placement (AP) courses, AICE Cambridge International curriculum, and four specialized career academies including Biotechnology and Entrepreneurship programs that prepare students for the demands of top-tier universities and competitive professional careers. Spanish River has earned a 10 out of 10 rating from GreatSchools one of the few public high schools in Florida to achieve this distinction and is recognized as the most comprehensive high school in Palm Beach County.
For Tommy, being able to excel in this environment while competing at the highest level of athletics reinforces what he believes deeply — that the same work ethic, time management, and determination that make a great athlete also make a great student. Spanish River has challenged Tommy to bring both to the table every single day.
