My faith in Jesus gives me unshakable peace on the field no matter if I just threw 5 TD’s or if we’re down by 20 in the fourth quarter, I know He’s already got the outcome in His hands. My faith allows me to play loose and fearless and put the team above all else.
Football is a violent sport and injuries and pain are part of the process. When I’m feeling pain I mentally manage it - I remember that Jesus endured the cross for me, and it inspires me to play through it. In some small way, pushing through the pain of the sport is a way of honoring Him - turning the pain into my worship for the Lord My Savior Jesus Christ.
Believing I’m a loved son of God, not just a Quarterback trying to prove my value to the sport, lets me lead my teammates with humility and provide them real encouragement instead of personal ego. On every snap I’m playing for an audience of One, whether the game is at an empty community park or a packed high school stadium I strive to give maximum effort on every down.
There is no football without Jesus.
